Faced with a host of performance issues, missing features, and lousy user review scores on Steam, the makers of Battlefield 2042 released a damage control note promising a game update on Thanksgiving.
“Teams around the world are working 7/24 to evolve and deliver improvements to the game,” EA DICE said on Tuesday. “We've confirmed at least two major game updates in the coming weeks, and we'll be in constant communication here about any changes we've made, as well as new content coming to Battlefield 2042.”
Battlefield 2042, a multiplayer-only game for the first time in franchise history, was released on November 19. A game update just before launch did little to fix the issues that were shown during early access and reviews. Gamers and critics alike have reported core gameplay shortcomings like lag and hit recording, and the lack of a key feature like voice chat posed a problem, especially for a game mode where teams of 64 players fight.
Regarding hit detection, DICE said Tuesday that “on very rare occasions we find that our servers do not register hit markers correctly.” “We are actively working to identify what could be causing this issue and develop fixes,” DICE said.
Another performance issue that has been bothering players, this includes aiming, will not be fixed until the third update in December. DICE has discovered that “some settings are not applied properly” regarding mouse aiming, and a fix is ready, but reports it will take several weeks.
As for servers, DICE said that Battlefield 2042's online services largely performed "at our intended target levels." … However, there are still some critical issues you may encounter while playing on servers that we are eager to resolve quickly.”
Battlefield 2042's Metacritic score for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 is the lowest in series history, and the second-lowest on PC, only ahead of Battlefield Hardline in 2015.
