Each of these new environments is designed to support massive battles of up to 128 players.
Electronic Arts has released a new trailer that showcases three new maps coming to Battlefield 2042, each "tailored to provide a unique experience that directly impacts strategy for you and your team."
The video isn't exactly an in-depth tactical analysis: Rather, it's more of a fast-paced overview of three different environments, all filled with various bits and pieces of architecture for players to climb on. What they have in common is the size, each of which has "multiple different battlefields", allowing for simultaneous close-range, long-range and vehicular warfare.
Here's a quick breakdown of each new map seen in the trailer:
- Renovation : An eclectic landscape set in an Egyptian desert with a solar power plant on one side and a lush Research Facility on the other. Between both regions is a wall with several entry points, including a passage through the often controversial Entry Control Point in Conquest in the middle of the map. Players should also come prepared for close range combat in these areas and both buildings in Renewal.
- Breakaway : Set in Antarctica, this map features an Offshore Platform on the Frozen Coast and an Outlook Station perched high above the battlefield, making it the focal point for aerial combat. On the broken roads of the glacier, players fight in and over ice cliffs connected by zip lines and rope bridges, where the quick use of a parachute can be the difference between life and death.
- Discarded : Contains a flooded village on the west coast of India, a disassembled hull, and a Giant Ship to explore. This map offers lots of cover and close combat; Colossus Ship lets players fight inside his ship as airships attack from above and tanks punch his hull. In unpredictable weather conditions, players will have to stay alert as the threat of a tornado could hit the map at any time.
Including these three, a total of seven maps are coming at launch for Battlefield 2042. More maps are scheduled to arrive in seasonal updates alongside new experts. Electronic Arts also recently announced the second half of Battlefield 2042's specialist roster (including the first non-dual character in the series), confirming that the controversial characters are here to stay, despite some concerns about how they played out in the final beta test.
