Kingdom Hearts 4, First Trailer

Sora is back with a new look and is heading to a big city called Quadratum.

Square Enix has announced that the next installment in the long-running Disney RPG series, Kingdom Hearts IV, is in development. The news came as part of the 20th anniversary celebration event and included the release of the first trailer, which you can watch below.

Kingdom Hearts IV kicks off a new story for the franchise, the Lost Master Arc. Sora is back, but with a new look, as you'll see in the trailer and screenshots. The KHIV portion of the trailer starts around 4:05:

The trailer offers a glimpse into the gameplay as Sora challenges up against a giant shadow monster in the middle of a city street. This new location is the Quadratum, which Square Enix describes in Kingdom Hearts as "a large, expansive city set in a gorgeous, realistic world that has never been seen before."

No further details on Quadratum or the overall gameplay or story were shared. Donald and Goofy are both returning in KHIV, and a new "mysterious" new character named Strelitzia will also be introduced.

Although Kingdom Hearts 3 is finally releasing for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, there's no word on what platforms KHIV will be available for. Likewise, there is no shared release date.

Alongside the next main entry in the series, Square Enix used its anniversary event to announce a new mobile game for iOS and Android called Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, which can also be seen in the trailer montage above.
