PUBG Mobile will be introduced as a medal event this September at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. But the popular battle royale game will be very different from the one played by players around the world.
Launched by the Asian Esports Federation (AESF), the new Road to Asian Games 2022 It has been confirmed on the website that teams will compete exclusively in PUBG Mobile on the shooting range and race to determine the winners. AESF is a recognized institution by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and is responsible for esports in Asia 2022. Road to Asian Games is a program to select teams from relevant countries for the final competition in China.
AESF has announced that each game will consist of four teams, each of four players competing in multiple stages. Teams will try to hit the given targets on the vehicle as they head towards the finish line. The rankings will be determined by the team that reaches the finish line first after completing the shooting missions.
“Classic gaming will mix modern sporting events such as triathlons, leading to an esports event corresponding to the Sportsmanship-Cross-Cross Shooting Competition,” AESF said.
South Korea's Money Today newspaper reported last month that classic Pvp will not be allowed in PUBG Mobile at the 2022 Asian Games due to concerns that it would "harm harmony" between countries.
Dot Esports reached out to Tencent last month, and the developer released the following statement: “In keeping with its sportsmanship and Olympics vision, PUBG Mobile Asian Games version will combine PUBG Mobile's iconic gameplay and true sports gaming experience. We hope it will bring the most unique excitement for our audiences.”
It seems like OCA and AESF don't want to show violence in Asian Games so these big changes are being made in PUBG Mobile.
PUBG Mobile is one of eight games selected as the medal event at the 2022 Asian Games. Other games are League of Legends, Street Fighter V, Hearthstone, FIFA, Dream of Three Kingdoms 2, Dota 2 and Asian Games version of Arena of Valor.
