A modder managed to fit Malenia, Elden Ring's hardest boss, into Sekiro.
Malenia, Elden Ring's super badass megaboss, has always felt like she'd been transplanted from FromSoftware's fast-paced, parry-focused ninja action game Sekiro. His aggressive swordplay could take a spin around my sluggish Tarnished – he almost seems to demand the precision of a Wolf.
First, enter the Land of Reeds mod, created by Chinese player Last孤影众 (Gūyǐng zhòng), who is active on Bilibili. The mod appears to be a strange sort of gaiden remix of Sekiro, changing multiple areas and, most importantly, bringing three iconic bosses from other FromSoftware games into Sekiro, including the now iconic rot valkyrie herself, Malenia.
I'm not sure I'd recommend playing the mod itself in its current form. Nexus page It appears to host an outdated version, instead multiple YouTube storefronts of the project link to a Google Drive directory that I can't personally vouch for, which also lacks installation instructions, and I've seen mention of save file issues with its use. However, I can recommend catching the mod in action from Souls YouTubers like Ongbal, who is known as the master of no-hits and hard runs against Soulsborne bosses.
It's exciting to see Ongbal counter Malenia's famous Waterfowl Dance attack with Sekiro's timed blocks – in Elden Ring you either roll like crazy, dodge, or die outright. In fact, giving Miquella's Sword to Sekiro seems to make it almost too easy, perhaps requiring some tweaking of the stagger meter to give it more of a fighting chance.
Ongbal also recently uploaded a video showing Dark Souls 3's Slave Knight Gael in Sekiro via the Land of Reeds, while fellow YouTuber Tigre also scored a no-hitter against Dark Souls 1's Artorias in the mode. Big, Guts-y swordsmen seem like a less natural fit for Sekiro's combat than Malenia's fast fencing, but it's still great to see them in this completely different context.
Due to inherent technical hurdles, we'll always be deprived of the true FromSoft crossover power match: seeing these clowns try to take on an Armored Core. Forget the augmented human C4621, callsign: “Raven,” the damned Dafeng Student Pilot, the most tyrannical man in Rubiconian history, can take down any Elden Ring demigod.
