Meta Twitter'e Rival Threads App briefly appeared on Google Play.
Alessandro Paluzzi, a developer who routinely searches app code to uncover unreleased features, tweeted earlier this morning that Meta's Twitter clone, Thread, was released on the Google Play store. However, this seems to be a bug because the app can't be found anywhere at the moment.
Paluzzi added screenshots showing some of the UI elements, including the login screen that lets users sign in with their Instagram account, and another with a list of accounts they follow from the image and video site so they can choose who to follow on Threads. Check out the screenshots in this gallery:

It's no surprise that Threads is very similar to Twitter. From the screenshots, a new post will display character counts and a small paperclip to add whatever Threads will let you add to posts. When viewing posts, there are familiar icons for liking, reposting, replying and sharing. And the user images are made up of small circles. Instagram even has Twitter-like blue checkmarks.
Threads has been under development on Meta under the name “Project 92” since January. The Verge confirmed the name. And based on an internal meeting, Meta's chief product officer Chris Cox said while previewing Threads, "We're hearing from creators and public figures who are interested in having a sane-managed platform unlike Twitter." He got the first real look.
The leaked news triggered the cage match between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Also, when Cox's statement reached Musk, Zuckerberg tweeted that he was "ready for a cage match" if he agreed. Zuck agreed, and now speculation is rampant as to whether that will actually happen.
Meta has not announced an official release date for the app. But appearing in the Google Play store probably means a release is imminent.
