It turns out that arrows passing through shields do not provide a great experience.
Overwatch developers quickly rolled back the January 6 patch, which was sent to live servers earlier today. The patch, which includes buffs for heroes like Cassidy, Reinhardt, and Hanzo, was installed around 13:20 CT, the regular time for the game's updates.
Much of the patch included a buff for Hanzo's Storm Arrow ability, which allowed arrows to bounce once after firing. This is a slight return to the Scatter Arrow ability, which was replaced by Storm Arrow in Hanzo's extensive 2018 rework.
Players quickly noticed that the newly added ability ignores shields and leaps to the nearest hard surface.

At 13:53 p.m. CT, the original patch notes post was removed and community manager AndyB posted an update on the January 6 live patch.
“We're rolling back today's update to fix an issue where Hanzo's Storm Arrow wasn't being properly blocked by shield abilities,” AndyB wrote on the Blizzard Entertainment forums. “At this time, we do not have an ETA for when the patch will be released again.”
