VALORANT's new Radiant Crisis 001 pack doesn't come with superpowers to enhance your gameplay, but at least it lets you embody the style of your favorite comics.
The new Radiant Crisis 001 pack includes skins for Phantom, Specter, Classic, Bucky, and a new Baseball Bat (blade skin). VALORANT weapon packs with unique themes and art styles allow players to enjoy a profoundly different visual experience without affecting core gameplay. Previous packages such as the BlastX package showed how willing VALORANT developers are to push the boundaries.
VALORANT associate art director Sean Marino said, “With Radiant Crisis (comics), the goal was reversed. We wanted to see if we could take an art style that exists outside of the VALORANT world and bring it into the game.”
Marino says the team came up with the idea for the skin pack in September 2020, but will have to wait for the community to get used to the "tonally different" skins. BlastX was the first package that was drastically different, and was purposely released six months after the game was released.
The developers originally created the shaders “more in line with something you might find in an anime fighting game like Guilty Gear or Dragonball FighterZ.” But an engineer working on Riot's upcoming fighting game Project L brought in a shader for the team to try out, and they noticed there was "a pretty extreme disconnect between the gun and the rest of the world," according to Marino. This led to the transition to a comic book feel rather than an anime concept.
The Radiant Crisis 001 pack is a Premium Edition pack that includes new skins for Phantom, Specter, Classic, and Bucky. The pack also includes a new Baseball Bat. Each weapon skin has three upgradeable levels that add new visual textures, visual effects, and a third-level kill banner and finish. The Baseball Bat also has upgradable textures and visual effects.
The new bundle is out on November 2 and is priced at 7.100 VP
