Senua's Saga: Hellblade II Release Date Announced. Developer Ninja Theory joined Microsoft's Xbox Developer Direct to discuss its sequel, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. The biggest news in the footage is that the game finally has a Senua's Saga: Hellblade II release date announced: May 21. Microsoft also confirmed that the game will be released digitally only.
The developer explained that it is in the final months of development and outlined some elements to expect from Hellblade II. Senua isn't as afraid of their voices as she was in the original game, but she's still a Celtic warrior struggling with psychosis. As with the first game, Ninja Theory is working with professionals like Cambridge's Paul Fletcher to ensure Senua represents an accurate version of someone struggling with complex mental issues.
There are a number of new characters to interact with. Some will appreciate his point of view and see him as an ally, but others will reject him and see him as an enemy. Like the original game, Hellblade II takes on 10th-century Iceland (which the developer visited for research) and fights against Vikings who have enslaved its people. Ninja Theory focused on making the game historically accurate but added an obvious layer of fantasy on top.
Combat has been overhauled for the sequel, with the game focusing on the fact that Senua is not a superhero. The aim of the combat is to make players feel like they're barely escaping each encounter, and the gameplay footage of the combat looks brutal.
Ninja Theory concluded the stream by saying it hopes to “create life-changing art with game-changing technology.” We will see on May 21 whether the game has achieved this lofty goal.
