Sony and NCSoft have reportedly struck a deal to create a Horizon MMORPG.
NTD According to the news site, the Sony MMORPG project will be developed by the South Korean company behind the Lineage and Guild Wars MMO series and will target the global market as part of Sony's transition to live service games.
NCSoft is currently recruiting developers to work on the title, which is said to be listed as 'Project H' in job postings.
A statement from NCsoft's global communications office reportedly read (via Google Translate): "It is difficult to verify information on unreleased projects currently in development."
VGC has contacted Sony to comment on this report.
It appears that Guerrilla Games, the Sony-owned studio behind 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn and this year's sequel Horizon Forbidden West, has long had plans to make Horizon multiplayer, VGC says.
Sources previously told VGC that the collaboration was originally planned for the first Horizon game, but was eventually shelved so the development team could focus on other areas of the game.
They said Sony was also willing to include the West collaboration, but Guerrilla has decided to save the feature for either a standalone online spin-off or a future project they believe will be Horizon 3.
Last year Guerrilla was staffing an online game, but it's unclear whether the title in question is a Horizon game.
Roles advertised on the studio's website included a senior social systems designer position; the mandate of this position was to “create Guild-like groups to engage players in social interactions to create lasting relationships and, where appropriate… to explore together.”
