Wisdom Gaming announced in a press release today that the League of Legends: Wild Rift North America Series (WNS) regional championship will take place from April 29 to May 1 at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. This will be the first LAN event for the MOBA title in the region and will also be open to a live audience. WNS is run by Wisdom Gaming in partnership with Riot Games.
In the Championship, eight teams will compete for a share of the $2022 prize pool and qualifying for the Global Championship Icons 80.000, which will be held this summer in Europe to determine a world champion. The winner of the WNS will advance directly to the group stage of the Global Championship Tokens, while the runners-up will earn a spot in the play-in stage.
WNS' first season was split into three halves, each consisting of two open eliminations and a major. So far, only two teams have qualified for the WNS Championship. The Sentinels and Immortals booked their spot at the event by placing in the top two at Major Two earlier this month. Four more teams will be determined in Major Three, which will take place from April 1 to 3. The final two teams will be locked in LCQ from April 8 to 10.
The WNS Championship will take place from April 29 to May 1, and the broadcast will begin at 12:00 PM. The main tournament will be held at the Huntington Bank Rotunda on the second floor of the Mall of America. Wisdom also said attendees would be given "exciting fan experiences".
“We are excited to partner with Wisdom Gaming to bring the WNS season one Championship to the Mall of America,” said Chad Smeltz, Wild Rift Esports product lead for NA/OCE at Riot. “It was exciting to witness the competitive experience for our players in season one. We are confident that the WNS season one Championship event will only enhance the success we have seen in the tournament and within the community.”
