Destiny 2's latest Witch Queen expansion trailer inadvertently used fanart of Xivu Arath, and Bungie described the situation as "confusion".
A trailer for the upcoming Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansion mistakenly used fanart of Xivu Arath instead of official Bungie material. The new trailer, released earlier this week, takes a look at Destiny's hunt for Savathûn, exploring a detective's board for clues, footage, and notes. The Witch Queen, Destiny 2 will hit theaters in February 2022.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queenwill take players to the Throne World as they try to unravel the mystery of Savathûn and Lucent Hive's theft of Light. The expansion will introduce the new Glaive weapon type, a powerful spear-like weapon with a long, curved blade. Bungie previously compared Destiny 2: The Witch Queen's campaign to games like Doom and Titanfall 2, suggesting that fans will have a feast when the new content is finally released. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen started launching this year before being delayed.
Artist and Twitter user Goods E's Xivu Arath fanart was quickly spotted in the latest WitchQueen trailer and Forbesconfirmed with the artist that Bungie did not ask permission to use the track. Mal E, to the publication, that the use of the artwork “100% some kind of crazy mistake” said that they believed that “absolutely not making any claims of design theft” stated.
Bungie lead community manager Cozmo, describing the situation as "complexity", confirming that Bungie is now asking permission from the artist and will give them credit.
“There was a confusion when creating this post and @relay314's art was used by mistake. We reached out to them and got permission to use their work, and now we give them credit for this wonderful portrayal of the community by Xivu Arath.”
