Store Privilege for Developers with Epic First Run. The program requires a six-month exclusivity period on PC only for 100% revenue share.
The Epic Games Store offers developers and publishers 100% of a game's first six months of sales revenue if they choose to release in-store only.
The new program, called Epic First Run, was announced by Epic Games today and is open to anyone eligible to publish a product in its store through its own publishing portal. The program is available to anyone who plans to release a game on or after October 16, provided the game is also not (or hasn't yet) been released on PC on a competing third-party store or third-party streaming service. Games that will be released on consoles are excluded from this scope.
Epic says it will share all the revenue from the first six months of the sale with the developer in question, and then return to the 88/12% share when the store first opened. The announcement also includes provisions for stores like the Humble Store or Green Man Gaming, as well as first-party stores where a publisher can sell. These are allowed as long as they are concurrent with the version on the Epic Games Store or as long as the third-party store uses Epic's keyless program. This new move appears to aim to distance developers from releasing games on platforms like Steam and Xbox Game Pass and instead keep them exclusive to Epic for potentially higher short-term returns. Epic has made a number of exclusivity deals for releases (which are excluded from this program) in the past, but this seems like an easier way for more developers big and small to get involved without having to sign a similar contract.
Applications for the program are currently open and only one Epic Developer account is required to get started. Epic Games Store's next big special, Remedy's Alan Wake II, will be available in the store on PC only after Control. The game will be released on October 27.
