Following the news that Tom “Tom” Leese was the first FIFA player to be traded for a transfer fee, the target was finally clear. Tom will transfer to EXCEL ESPORTS, a UK-based gaming culture brand known specifically for the LEC, VALORANT and Fortnite teams. While the official announcement did not reveal the terms of the deal, Sky Sports reported that the transfer fee could be as high as £100.000.
Apart from the serious purchase fee that communicated their intentions, EXCEL ESPORTS also made former professional FIFA player Nathan “Zelonius” Horton the team's manager.
Tom is a competitor who has been at the top of the FIFA scene for several years, playing for teams like Fnatic, Watford and Hashtag United. At the most recent FIFA 21 Global Series European Playoffs, Tom battled for a respectable top 10 spot after an impressive run in the lower group. In his career, the 22-year-old has earned over $150.000 and has a solid brand with a strong YouTube channel of 80.000 subscribers.
More announcements have been made for EXCEL's FIFA roster, and we can expect Tom to welcome new teammates soon, among other news regarding the esports organization's involvement in FIFA.
