YouTube has begun public testing of its upcoming "playables" feature. The feature integrates playable games into the video hosting site, along with movie rentals, YouTube Shorts, music, and everything else on the platform.
According to a report from 9 To 5 Google, employees were testing the feature earlier this year. Now, it has updated the list of test features and experiments with YouTube Playables. Selected users can play games on the website or app on both desktop and mobile devices. If you are one of the users with access, you will see a section on YouTube called “Games”. These games will appear in the feed alongside other content. It will appear in your YouTube history where you can also check your saved game progress.
YouTube has not yet provided any details about what types of games will be available on the service. One of the games employees tested was Stack Bounce, available on Google's GameSnacks platform. However, it is unknown whether Stack Bounce will be part of this test or whether other GameSnacks games will be included. It's also unclear how game developers will be able to put their games on YouTube.
Google's last big gaming move was the unfortunate Google Stadia, which was defunct earlier this year. Let's see if Youtube will share the same fate with Google Stadia or will it succeed...
