Diablo Immortal players will soon be able to transform their existing characters into a new class every seven days with a new update. Additionally, the update will introduce a new limited-time event and endgame boss.
Announced before the release of Blizzard's mobile-first ARPG, there was no release date for when the feature would be implemented. But now a new Blizzard blog write Thanks to you, we have more details on how Class Change will actually work. Players will be able to change classes for free every seven days by visiting the new Shifting Flames location in Westmarch. If players choose a wrong class, they will also have the option to immediately revert to that character's previous class. Blizzard specifically stated that it will not allow players to purchase the ability to change classes more often.
Characters subjected to the Class Change will have new items with a rank equivalent to the equipment owned by the character before the Class Change, and equipment equipped with the previous version of the character will be placed in the player's inventory. Players will be able to customize their appearance after making the change and their Paragon points will be reset. All clan, warband and social group links will also be transferred.
While Class Switching is definitely the star of Diablo Immortal's next update, the update also brings new events and rewards. A new reward track called Hero's Journey is being added that will reward players with a variety of items as they tackle missions with increasing difficulty at higher Paragon levels. A host of new legendary items are also being added to the game for each class, emphasizing new damage-dealing powers over time.
A new event, Adventurer's Path, additional gold, enchanted powder, and scrap materials will be awarded to players who complete quests. You will be rewarded with a special portrait frame when you complete 16 missions and a legendary crest when you complete 20 missions. The event will take place from 20 July to 30 August. The Hungering Moon, Diablo Immortal's first limited-time event, will also return from July 29-31.
Finally, a new raid boss is coming to Helliquary. Gorgothra the Claimer will be added on August 2, but Blizzard has not revealed what Combat Rating players must have accomplished to fight the new boss.
The free-to-play Diablo Immortal was heavily criticized when it launched in June for its various micro-transactions and “pay-to-win” legendary gem system, although it was reported to earn more than $50 million in its first month. Blizzard has yet to address complaints about how the game is monetized, with Blizzard president Mike Ybarra instead defending the game's monetization model in a recent interview. Amid backlash against Diablo Immortal, Blizzard announced that the upcoming Diablo IV will have an in-game microtransaction shop, only for optional cosmetics, and there will be no way to spend real money for in-game power.
