Discord A New Username Changes to the app will be made available "in the coming weeks".
Popular app Discord, which has become the backbone of most gaming communities, has announced some major changes that will require Discord users to update their usernames.

As shared on the official Discord blog, users will be asked to change their username to a new one with no numbers applied. A number of digits are currently applied to Discord usernames, but with new changes to the app's infrastructure this will be removed entirely. The post states that this change will allow users to have an easier time “identifying and connecting with friends” and the newly chosen usernames will be user-specific for Discord.
The new usernames will allow characters selected from the az alphabet, numbers 0-9, underscores (_) and periods. Restrictions for new names must be between 2 and 32 characters long, be case-sensitive, contain no special characters, no continuous periods, and follow community guidelines. New username changes will be rolled out in the coming weeks, and the app will notify users that they can apply a revised name. The blog post also states that users with older accounts will be able to get their username change faster than newer accounts.
The goal is to allow people to have names without the need for numbered separators (eg Username#1001). Currently, users can create duplicate names for Discord, but the number applied to the name will show the difference between them. With no numbers for each username, more emphasis will be placed on providing a username that is clear to your friends and viewers.
However, some users online have expressed concerns about the new change, and they believe it will not only make things more confusing for users to find you, but also put people at risk of losing their privacy while using Discord.
This is another big change coming to popular social media destinations following Twitter's verification updates and Instagram's push for more reel content. The update to Discord is an inevitable change, which means users will have to apply a new name when prompted or by manually initiating the change in the settings menu when the full distribution starts. We'll be monitoring changes as they begin, and we'll continue to monitor other changes happening on Discord.
