Developer Techland announced on Tuesday morning that Dying Light 2 Stay Human will not meet its previously scheduled release date (supposed to ship this December) and will now arrive on February 4, 2022.
Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka confirmed Dying Light 2's new release date on Twitter and apologized to fans for the wait.
“The team is making steady progress on the project and the game is approaching the finish line,” said Marchewka. “The game is complete and we are currently doing game testing. It's the biggest and most ambitious project we've ever done. Unfortunately, we need more time to optimize and bring the game to our dream level…”
“We're sorry to keep you all waiting a little longer, but we want the game to meet your highest expectations when it's released, and we don't want to compromise on that.”
As a consolation, Marchewka said fans will be able to release previews of the console and PC versions of the game in October.
Dying Light 2 Stay Human; A sequel to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, our hero will go to City, defined by Techland as "the last bastion of humanity in the war" against the virus. The day-night cycle and parkour-inspired transition of the original game will return in Dying Light 2.
Techland announced Dying Light 2 at E3 2018, and it was originally scheduled for release in spring 2020. In the preview of the game at E3 2019, we compared the game to the first-person action movie. We said, “The main character jumping from roof to roof and then grappling with enemies at close range can be dizzying at times.” “At other times, with tense confrontations against the undead deep in dark, cavernous buildings.
The game can be downright scary.”
