Kurtis Lau “Toyz” Wai-Kin, a former League of Legends professional player and coach, was arrested in Taipei, Taiwan, on suspicion of smuggling cannabis, a second-rate illicit drug in the country. If found guilty, he could face several years in prison and a fine of up to five million New Taiwan dollars (~$179.691).
The Taichung District Attorney General's Attorney said that a warrant had been issued for Wai-Kin's arrest and that police found marijuana in his home after a search. Authorities believe he intends to sell the drugs.
The arrest was confirmed by many media outlets in the region, such as Taiwan English News, Yahoo and China Times. Marijuana is classified along with amphetamine and opium in Taiwan, and the country's Narcotic Hazard Prevention Act says this drug trafficking is punishable by at least five years of fixed-term imprisonment.
According to Taiwan English News, Wai-Kin was detained by the police on Tuesday (September 28th) and passed a drug test. The results of the test have yet to be made public, and police have petitioned the courts to detain the former League professional for further questioning.
During his time as a professional League player, Wai-Kin played for the Taipei Assassin and helped them win their second season World Championship against Azubu Frost in October 2012. The 29-year-old has also coached Fnatic and held managerial roles for Raise Gaming and G.
Before he was arrested, he was making a living as an influencer and YouTuber.
