Story details
The Hogwarts Legacy story will take us to the wizarding world of the 100s, 1800 years before the events of the Harry Potter books. Hogwarts has an original story that will allow us to experience life as a late Hogwarts fifth grader who was admitted late because we hold the key to an "ancient secret" that threatens the world of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Avalanche Software says that in Hogwarts Legacy, we will embark on a "dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world," visiting some familiar places and meeting brand new characters.
Open world setting
The Hogwarts setting extends beyond the confines of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hogwarts Legacy is an open world experience, and as such, it will eventually bring you to surrounding locations such as the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village, as well as Warner Bros. We will be able to travel to completely new places that Games has not yet announced. Naturally, the main attraction is the fully realized Hogwarts Castle, especially when it comes to attending classes, cultivating our magical abilities, making potions, taming magical beasts, exploring Hogwarts' secret dungeons and secret passages, and challenging puzzles scattered throughout the school.
gameplay
From the Hogwarts gameplay we've seen so far, it's clear that developer Avalanche Software is indeed building a sprawling action-RPG set in the wider Harry Potter universe. You'll be able to create your own characters, sort them into a house, and then act as a student at Hogwarts. You'll learn how to craft new magical abilities and potions in the classrooms, face creatures and dark forces in wand-to-staff combat across the world, and level up your skills and equipment as you gain new experience. Hogwarts Legacy really does sound like the Harry Potter RPG we've been wanting for decades.
Hogwarts Legacy cast
Warner Bros. It recently unveiled its Hogwarts roster, and it's impressive. The news that Star Trek and Mission: Impossible actor Simon Pegg will play Albus Dumbledore's directorial predecessor, Phineas Nigellus Black, has undoubtedly made headlines. We also learned that Sebastian Croft and Amelia Gething will voice the protagonists, and Luke Youngblood will play Ravenclaw student Everett Clopton.
Battle of Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy will empower you to become the witch or wizard you always wanted to be. You'll be able to wield a wand and teach spells like Levioso, Incendio, Flipendo, and Oppugno in classes and learn from other friends you meet at school. There are a total of 20 spells you can assign to slots for use in battle, and you can create combos between these spells and basic spellcasts with only short cooldowns. Spells fit into categories like "damage" or "control," and these categories are color-coded to help you break through the shields of enemy spell slings. It has a Batman Arkham-style dodge mechanic to help you dodge incoming attacks. You will also be able to improve your fighting skills by preparing potions at school.
character creation
As with most of the best RPGs, you'll be able to tweak the look and style of your Witch or Wizard to get them just right. To get started, you'll choose a preset character and dig deeper to choose your face shape, hairstyle, skin tone, and eyes in detail. No slider details here – all options are split into a number of presets. You can choose your character's voice and whether to stay in a Witch or Wizard dorm, regardless of their appearance.
houses
One of the biggest decisions you have to make at Hogwarts Legacy is choosing your House and Staff. As a newly enrolled fifth-year student, you will be going through the Sorting Hat ceremony – but the Hogwarts Legacy will let us decide whether we want to connect with Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin or Ravenclaw. You can start the process now – a partnership with the Wizarding World website means you can import your pre-existing house and wand. If you haven't already, a Sign up for a Wizarding World account and take the Staff Ceremony and Selection Ceremony tests to make sure you rank on February 10, 2023.
common rooms
We saw the demo of the four common rooms of Hogwarts Legacy and they are pretty awesome. Each of the four Hogwarts Buildings - Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw - has its own private common room. These are areas where you can relax and interact with other fellow students, meet different NPCs, and find unique items and locations to interact with. Impressively, each common room also has its own unique entrance – for example, the Slytherin door is revealed by a sliding stone snake, while the Hufflepuff entrance is hidden behind what appears to be a giant barrel. The real dial in Hogwarts Legacy's role-playing feature is little touches like this.
Classes
As you forge your own path as a young Witch or Wizard, you will need to attend Hogwarts Legacy classes. You'll be able to take classes like Talismans, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, and Potions to learn how to cast new spells, make potions, grow magical herbs, and more. There is also a Flying class to help you master the art of flying with a broomstick and explore the larger Hogwarts castle a little easier. While Avalanche Software hasn't yet detailed how in-depth any Hogwarts Legacy class will actually be, we know there will be professors to meet.
Quidditch
The Hogwarts Legacy broom flight has been confirmed, but we know the Wizarding World's most popular pastime will not be featured here. That's right, Quidditch won't be playable in Hogwarts Legacy. It's an absolute shame, although Avalanche Software promises to use the broomstick flight for transit, allowing you to explore new and familiar places around Hogwarts Castle, as well as broomstick race challenges you can participate in. If I dust my PS2, is anyone ready to participate in a few rounds of 2003's Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup?
Characters and companions
Hogwarts Legacy is billed as an in-depth RPG, so there will of course be plenty of characters and companions to meet along the way. You'll be able to make friends with other students in the school and even take them out into the world as companions to aid in combat and exploration. There are currently three confirmed Hogwarts Legacy companions: Natsai Onai, Poppy Sweeting, and Sebastian Sallow.
Apart from directly helping your adventure, characters can also teach you new spells and unlock more story content as you begin to become friends and learn about their backstories. You'll also encounter familiar Harry Potter ghosts like Nearly Headless Nick, Peeves, and Professor Cuthbert Binns; and as a fifth grader, you'll be able to interact with a variety of professors at the school, including those who teach Talisman, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, and Herbology.
Micro conversions
The downloadable Dark Arts Pack included with the Deluxe Edition and the appearance of events tied to timers has caused some players to worry that there will be Hogwarts Legacy microtransactions to deal with. Fortunately, Warner Bros. Games confirmed that "Hogwarts Legacy has no microtransactions," but players who buy the standard edition of the game can purchase the Dark Arts Pack in-game items separately if they wish - though Warner has reaffirmed that "there are no other items to purchase in the game."
System requirements
Hogwarts Legacy system requirements by Avalanche Software listed on the game's official Steam page. Hogwarts Legacy minimum and recommended requirements are as follows:
