How to Move iOS Chrome Address Bar to the Bottom? Two years after Apple made a similar controversial design change for Safari, Google is following suit with Chrome.
The search giant announced that Google's Chrome browser on iOS has officially gained the option to move the address bar from the top of the screen to the bottom. The first signs of this feature were seen in the beta version of the browser this year, but it is being rolled out widely as of this week. I can already access this feature on my phone without having to update my browser.
This is an optional change, and judging by my own Chrome app, the default address bar is still at the top. However, if you want to move the address bar down, you can do so by using the “address bar” option in the Settings menu or by long-pressing on the bar and tapping on the “move address bar down” option.
Google is officially adding this option a few years after Apple introduced a similar feature to its own Safari browser in iOS 15. While this change was initially controversial among some users, I've come to really like this feature – and even so, I actively dislike any mobile browser that forces me to keep the address bar at the top of the screen. I find it much more convenient to not have to stretch my thumb across the top of the screen to type a URL or (more often) a Google search term. If you've stayed away from this feature in the past, I recommend trying it for a few more weeks to see if it sticks.
While Google has previously attempted to let Chrome users move the address bar on Android, today's announcement only concerns the iOS version of the browser. We hope it doesn't stay this way for long.
