MrBeast has apparently discovered a new YouTube thumbnail meta that could change the face of the site
For many years, creators around the world have been creating thumbnails of YouTube videos with the same formula: a photo of a shocked-looking man with his mouth open in front of whatever is happening in the background of the image.
It's been a popular pose for small creators and big stars alike, but one of the world's biggest creators may have cracked the code for a new thumbnail meta.
Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson posted screenshots of some analytics from a new YouTube video, showing that he gets better views and watch time on videos with a thumbnail of him covering his mouth. This pose is a classic trademark of the channel, but now it may be taking it to a new level with more smiles than shock.
These so-called numbers are YouTube's new thumbnail for thumbnails. Test and Compare It stems from its feature; This feature allows creators to test up to three thumbnails for their videos to see which one performs better among their audience.
The system initially shows viewers different thumbnails, and whichever image is viewed better over a certain period of time is eventually activated for all viewers. Of all the tests MrBeast ran, the thumbnail image of him smiling with his mouth closed outperformed all of the shocked face images.
MrBeast also agreed with a user on Twitter, stating that the shocked face meta has officially ended for his channel. “Now that I can actually A/B test thumbnails, I don't have to guess and just test and see what people want,” he said. “If I had this vehicle, my mouth would have shut up years ago.”
With one of the biggest creators moving away from the shocked face formula, we can expect many other creators to follow suit and shut their mouths on their thumbnails for the foreseeable future.
