Payday 3 Removes Denuvo After Backlash. Payday 3 received a lot of backlash for featuring the controversial DRM (digital rights management) anti-piracy software Denuvo. Developer Starbreeze Studios defended the feature and believed it to be useful, despite fans' opinions to the contrary. However, it looks like the developer has changed his mind, as it was announced on September 15 that Payday 3 will no longer have Denuvo.
Denuvo is an anti-tamper system that gamers generally dislike due to allegations of how it affects the performance of many games. Although Almir Listo, Payday 3's global brand director and head of community, said in an interview with Dot Esports that it "does not negatively impact the gaming experience," although some players think otherwise, a recent post from the game's official Twitter account stated that Denuvo is now a part of the game. It was announced that he would not be a part of it.
The developer had previously confirmed that the game would be online only, which is a new requirement in this latest game of the series. Listo stated that this feature was necessary "because it is made with Unreal Engine, there is cross-progression and cross-play." Now that Denuvo has been removed from the game, players are also expressing their demands for this limitation to be removed.
Payday 3's release is just around the corner, and luckily the developer seems to be taking player feedback into consideration ahead of the game's release. The game will be released on September 21 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
