All three will use the new Essence20 system. It will not include Dungeons & Dragons' 5th broadcast rules.
Three new licensed role-playing games based on the Power Rangers, GI Joe and Transformers universes are on the way. Publisher Renegade Game Studios originally announced these projects in September 2020. Now it says they won't be using the same mechanics that powers Dungeons & Dragons. Instead, the company developed its own d20-based system called Essence20. Development is led by designer Elisa Teague.
All three brands are used under license from Hasbro, which also owns D&G publisher Wizards of the Coast, Renegade said in a news release. Alongside D&G, Wizards also offers an open-source version of its ruleset known as the Version 5 Open Gaming License. Many other companies produce content based on OGL and often market that content in line with D&G.
OGL most recently made headlines as the basis for Auroboros: Coils of the Sepent, a new desktop RPC environment from Chris Metzen, creators of Warcraft and StarCraft, that earned more than $1,2 million on Kickstarter in May.

While Renegade hasn't given any release dates, the company has pre-ordered three new books. The GI Joe Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook, Power Rangers Role Playing Game Core Rulebook, and Transformers Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook are $55 each.
