Gaming peripherals company Razer today announced an esports wellness program called “Champions Start from Within.” The program will aim to promote healthy and sustainable play habits for professional and amateur players by collaborating with psychologists, physiotherapists, nutritionists and other experts.
As the industry grows every year, both mental and physical health have become a topic in the esports community. Last year, a few elite CS:GO players like olofmeister, Xyp9x, and gla1ve had to step away from the competition because they felt symptoms of burnout. According to a survey included in Razer's press release, some of the most common symptoms gamers experience are headaches, vision problems, insomnia, back or neck pain, and hand or wrist pain.
“Champions Start Within” focuses on four key areas: physical activity, mental health, sleep and nutrition. Razer will hold panel discussions with experts, doctors, and professional gamers like company-sponsored mousesports' CS:GO star ropz to shed light on the mental and physical demands of esports. There will also be one-on-one appointments with experts through the appointment system.
On top of that, Razer has created a calendar of events and content for the remainder of 2021, including a special wellness webinar in November with experts in the esports wellness industry. The webinar will be open to the public and will bring greater awareness and support to esports athletes.
“Champions Start Within” content is already live on Razer's official website, with articles from Ritual Motion, a health and wellness brand, and a series of videos from Respawn Therapy, an organization of physical therapists seeking to improve health.
