Starfield All Powers and How to Unlock It You can get several devastating powers in Starfield along with something called Quantum Essence.
You can get more than 20 Power-like powers in Starfield. The mechanics itself is initially part of the main task. But later on, you can find a few through free roaming in the sandbox. Our Starfield powers guide discusses how you can unlock these abilities by visiting temples on distant planets. Likewise, we would like to remind you that this article contains spoilers.
Starfield All Unlockable Powers
Star Field powers become available during a mission called Into the Unknown. In the beginning, you will search for additional artifact pieces. However, at the end of the mission you are told to go to Procyon III.
How to Find Temples
When you control Procyon III on the map, you will see an anomaly area. Get off, check your surroundings and look for an ancient temple in the distance.
In most cases, the ruins should be visible from your ship. If not, open your browser and slide the camera. You will see a special effect as if there is a glitch in the browser. This shows the general direction of the temple. Once you get there, look for a narrow passage between two high walls to enter.
How to Activate the Portal?
To unlock your Star Field powers, you need to activate the portal inside the temple. This is done by floating around and collecting sparks of light that appear. You'll know you've done it right when you hear a loud sound effect.
How will you use your powers?
Your character will then teleport outside and a new power will appear. The powers screen/interface will also become available and you can access it by pressing the up key in the menu.
With a power selected, you can press “Z” on your keyboard or LB+RB on your Xbox controller. Using a power drains your mana supply, represented by a thin bar below your HP. However, this also renews over time.
How to Defeat Starborn
When you go out, you will realize that you are not alone. Because a being known as Starborn will be waiting for you there. Starfield Starborn enemies are usually around level 30 and have the ability to sneak up on them. Therefore, you will want to look for ripples on your screen to locate them.
The goal is to blast a Starborn with your weapons until you defeat them. Unlike most enemies, they don't leave a corpse behind - they just disappear. Note that sometimes we see the loot/inventory panel just before a Starborn disappears. Unfortunately, we can't find any remains. We can't tell if this is a bug or if it's working as intended.
At least, every Starborn enemy you kill Quantum Essence (the amount can be seen in the Powers screen). Using Quantum Essence increases the regeneration rate of your power meter.
How to Find More Temples
From this point on, your Starfield power acquisition activities become part of a questline called Power from Beyond. There are several ways to find other temples in the game:
- If you fly to a new system, you may receive notification that there is a temple on a planet.
- Alternatively, you can talk to Vladimir Sall in the Eye. There may be cases where a temple knows its location and it will appear in your quest log.

What Happens in NewGame+?
We're getting further into the ultra-spoiler zone here, so be forewarned. When it comes to powers, here's what you need to know:
- In NewGame+ you can skip the main quest. Instead of doing Into the Unknown one more time, you can talk to Vladimir or visit new star systems to spot other temples.
- It is possible to obtain upgraded versions of these abilities (e.g. Gravity Wave II) that provide higher damage or stronger effects. We're not sure if the upgraded variants are available during the main campaign because we didn't get them at the time.
- We cannot confirm whether temple locations are randomly determined for each player or game. We know that artifact locations may be slightly different if you skip the main quest.
In any case, that's all you need to know about how to unlock powers in Starfield.
