The grand finals for the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2021 will take place from January 21-23. Sixteen teams from around the world will compete for the prize pool of over $3 million and the title of world champion.
Based on Instagram posts from different players, some of the teams are heading to Singapore to compete.
Tencent's director of esports, James Yang, previously told Dot Esports that the grand finals will be played as a semi-LAN event, with some teams traveling to a different venue while others compete locally. Yang also said that there will be no stage at the venue and that the teams will compete in a closed environment. With players spread around the world, Tencent is bringing teams closer to eliminate ping differences.
According to recent Instagram posts from Alpha7 Esports, Furious Gaming and Next Dream Esports players, the chosen location appears to be Singapore.
According to the Instagram story of Furious Gaming's Joaquín “ScreaaM” Escobar, the Chile-based team traveled to Singapore to compete in the grand finals. The actor claimed that they will return on January 24, which is the day after the grand finals end. He also said that players will be given a OnePlus device to play in the finals. The phone maker is one of the sponsors of PMGC 2021.
In addition, a player from Brazil-based Alpha7 Esports also posted an Instagram story pointing to the same issue. Daniel “Mafioso” Henrique showed off a packed bag with the flag of Singapore and an airplane emoji on the side.
Kaos Next Dream also released an Instagram reel showing the players getting into the minibus. The caption in the picture showed that they were leaving to compete in the PMGC grand finals, which will take place in Singapore. The official Turkish PUBG Mobile account also responded with a fire emoji.
Tencent did not respond to a request for comment regarding the location of the grand finals at the time of writing.
It's no surprise that Singapore is a venue for the grand finals. The country's tourism board has supported esports throughout 2021, and the Southeast Asian country is a popular destination for many LAN events, including the Free Fire World Series, M3 World Championship, and Horizon Cup.
It is unclear which teams will travel to Singapore to compete in the grand finals. Kaos Next Rüya, Alpha7 and Furious Gaming are based in Turkey, Brazil and Chile, respectively.
