Twitch is testing a TikTok-style stream. Twitch's new 'discovery stream' is rolling out to select users.
Twitch has become the latest tech company to experiment with a TikTok-like way to browse content. The company is trialling a feature that reveals clips in a new vertical scrolling stream it calls a "discovery stream," and the stream begins rolling out to "select users" on Tuesday, according to a Twitch post on X.
The stream will show you clips from Twitch creators, but initially the clips will only be horizontal clips; Twitch says users will see vertical clips "as the stream evolves." The discovery feed currently includes popular clips as well as “featured” clips (creators can mark which clips they want added to the “featured” repository).
Here's a video of the discovery feed if you want to get an idea of how it works:
Twitch joins companies like Spotify, Amazon, and Reddit in offering a TikTok-like format. The publishing company announced the discovery feed in July as one of several new features featuring clips, including the ability to export clips directly to TikTok.
Vertically scrolling video streaming isn't the only feature coming to Twitch from other social media networks; The company also announced in July that it plans to bring stories to the platform.
