Valve has officially confirmed that it has partnered with Beyond the Summit to hold a last-minute Spring Tour for Dota 2 teams on Eastern Europe's Dota Pro Circuit after it was indefinitely delayed in February due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But it won't be a full season.
According to Valve, the EEU DPC region will host an accelerated series of regional, online qualifiers in May to decide which three teams will be invited to the ESL One Stockholm Major. BTS will host these qualifiers from April 27.
In an updated March 11 statement, Valve stated that it “sees no way the Eastern European DPC league will take place as envisioned in the foreseeable future.” At the same time, Epic Esports Events, the original tournament organizer responsible for the EEU Spring Round competitions, previously waived Dota 2 hosting and production rights so Valve could explore other options to make sure something could happen.
This is Valve's attempt to ensure that after the Winter Tour Major was canceled due to COVID and travel concerns, this time there would be a Major in person. Efforts to replace it with the online Regional Finals were met with mixed fan response.
Beyond the Summit will release more details on the format and schedule in the near future, but for now, fans can look forward to seeing Team Spirit and other top teams in the EEU back on stage on April 27. The Stockholm Major is scheduled and the tournament will take place from May 12-22.
