X Removes Headlines from News Articles. Elon Musk is pushing for X to develop a format for news articles where only a lead image and source URL are displayed.
Social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, is testing extracting headlines from articles shared on the site. This move was first reported by Fortune, later directly confirmed by X owner Elon Musk. According to the material reviewed by the publisher, posts will only contain the main image and URL, unless the linking person or publisher has included their own text.
The image will still serve as a link to the article, but there is no timeline for its release or confirmation that it will be posted. “This is something Elon wanted,” one source said.
According to Musk, this change will "greatly improve the aesthetics" of the service. Other explanations for the change, reported by Fortune, include reducing the height of individual posts to allow users' timelines to display more content, and Musk apparently "believes the change will help prevent clickbait."
X did not immediately respond to a request for comment beyond an automated response from the press contact address.
