DMZ overview
DMZ is a three-player mode in a PvPvE environment where you can loot for high-value items and weapons and have the option to choose how you want to play, which includes completing objectives. With a successful exit, you keep all the items you loot, but if you die and are unable to exit the match, you risk losing almost everything.
General DMZ tips for beginners
Weapons work differently than battle royale!
Before entering a DMZ match, it's important to understand how gun rigs work. Basically, there are weapons you pull out of the mod called Contraband, and there are weapons you customize to get into the DMZ with the Gunsmith, and these are called weapon blueprints.
Your custom blueprints are the only items you won't permanently lose from a failed DMZ mission, but you will be penalized for not successfully exiting the match. This penalty is a two-hour cooldown timer.
Whether you choose to embark on a mission with your custom weapon plan, a Contraband weapon, or nothing will depend on what your target is for the match. It's not worth risking your best weapons if your goal is just to get in and collect loot and money. You can easily enter a match with just your fists, fight closely with the first NPC you see and pick up their weapons. Or you can clean up a building and possibly find something to use.
Save the better weapons for missions that require more firepower, like clearing castles or a series of tough group missions.
Don't start without getting the free essentials!
Always make sure you enter a match with your deadly, tactical and field upgrade gear. You always get these items at the beginning of the match and you never lose access to them. For the best field upgrade I recommend the ammo box so you always have ammo with you. You can always collect more or different deadly and tactical equipment, but always get these free stuff.
After entering the match, look for vests that allow you to equip more armor. You can buy them from Buy Stations, but if you search for nearby buildings you have a good chance of finding one.
Unlocking weapons easily
One really important thing to note is that if you're new or only have Warzone 2.0, you can unlock weapons much faster in the DMZ. Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 have a complex weapon progression system that requires you to use certain weapons to unlock others, but you can overcome this challenge by being able to get off the map with weapons in the DMZ. Every time you exit a weapon that you haven't already unlocked, you can unlock it for use in all modes. So, if you find a new weapon you like, be sure to take it into your inventory.
Start group tasks early
Before entering a match, you will have the option to choose three objective missions to complete in-game. These include tons of various challenges, including missions like looting certain items, gathering intelligence, and eliminating marked targets. There are degrees of difficulty, but completing them will not only give you decent XP and rewards, but also unlock additional fused weapon slots.
DMZ assimilation feature and communication
If your teammates die or you just need support, you can use the new assimilation feature of the Warzone 2.0 DMZ mod. This feature allows you to use a communication wheel to request to join other trios or ask others to join you. This function is found by pressing up on the D-pad to access the mod's dialog wheel. This wheel also lets you use basic communication options to group up with friends or ask for help in your area.
Some AIs are difficult
Some AIs are easy to fight, but beware of armored AIs and those in Strongholds or other intense target areas as they offer more challenging combat. Make sure you have ammo and armor plates with you, and don't be afraid to retreat from combat.
You can refuel and repair your vehicles.
Unlike the original Warzone, vehicles in Warzone 2 do not have unlimited fuel capacity. Make sure to watch the fuel meter in the bottom center of your screen. You can instantly refuel vehicles with looted gas cans, but you can also fill and repair vehicles at gas stations.
Feeling pressure to stay in the field
Entering the Warzone 2.0 DMZ mode as a group of three may seem like your destiny is permanently tied to your teammates, but you can leave the group at any time and you don't have to wait for your teammates. You can choose to exile separately, and they can do that too.
