It seems like everything has a subscription option these days, and if you're here it's because you noticed Discord does it too. So what is Discord Nitro? What upgrades to the online chat platform do you get if you sign up for a Nitro plan? And more importantly, is it worth your money?
What is Discord Nitro?
Discord Nitro is an optional subscription upgrade that allows you to further customize Discord and expand key features. It has two layers: Nitro and Nitro Basic. Both are available in the US, UK, Canada, Brazil, Japan, continental Europe and some other regions.
Discord Nitro is generally sold for $9,99 per month(26,99TL) and $99,99 per year(269,99TL). Nitro Basic is sold for $2,99 per month (74,99TL) and $29,99 per year (749,99TL).
To emphasize that you don't need a Nitro subscription, you don't need a Nitro subscription to use Discord. You can join Discord servers for free, and all of their most popular features work without spending any money. You can even create a server under the same conditions.
What do you get with Discord Nitro?
There's a common theme among Nitro plans, but as you'll notice, the overwhelming majority of benefits are reserved for the full-priced subscription.

Is Nitro worth buying?
For the average Discord user, probably not. Text and voice chat work fine without Nitro, and most people don't need HD video streaming or larger file uploads, or even the cosmetic perks or the ability to join up to 200 servers. Many people stay on several servers or even just one server, due to the original purpose of Discord being to allow friends to chat and coordinate for gaming. Even if you're not a gamer, you can still be on the service to talk about a single topic, like e-bikes, school, politics or existentialism.
However, if you spend many hours on Discord each month, it starts to make sense. It will make the experience much more personal and in some cases more useful, especially if you are exchanging files or using it in a professional capacity. For example, some podcasts will offer Discord server access only to Patreon supporters—if you're a host, you're better off standing out from your guests, and they'll appreciate it when HD video comes into play.
Nitro Basic may actually be the hardest thing to sell. Yes, it's much cheaper than the standard Nitro plan, but other than the 50MB file sharing limit it's purely cosmetic, and even that isn't particularly generous. It may be most appealing to teens who are more concerned with social status – and $29,99 per year is much easier for them or their parents to stomach.
