As with every magic item category, there are several options for heavy armor in BG3. They all have great AC, but I wanted to rank them based on the abilities you get when you wear them. At work The 3 best heavy armor sets you can get while playing Baldur's Gate 10.
Top 10 Baldur's Gate 3 Heavy Armor Sets with Cool Abilities You Shouldn't Ignore
10_Rippling Force Mail
This is one of the BG1 heavy armor sets that isn't flashy but does its job well between Acts 2 and 3. You can find it in a chest on the second floor of Dammon's forge in the Inn of Last Light. Its AC rating is 17, but whenever you take physical damage you receive a stacking damage reduction buff. I combine it with Adamantine Shield and the Heavy Armor Master feat to make my own character a mini Barbarian.
9_ Armor of Persistence
For some reason, there is no Dodge action in Baldur's Gate 3 that grants Drawback when you are attacked. This was an excellent action when dealing damage was less important than tanking throughout the round.
Persistence Armor gives you the use of Blade Ward and Resistance for free; the first of which can supposedly fulfill the role of the Dodge action with damage resistance. There are better options for your main tank, but this is a nice option that you can get from Dammon to your off tank in Baldur's Gate Act 3.
8_ Flawed Helldusk Armor
Bring a piece of Infernal Iron to Dammon in the Last Light Inn to obtain the Defective Helldusk Armor set. Ignore the Imperfect prefix, though. We will fix this later. For now, this heavy armor set gives you constant fire damage retaliation. Enemies take fire damage every time you get hit. It's like a mini Fire Shield spell that you don't need to use, and it's permanent.
7_Dwarven Splintmail
Direct Ability Score increases are rare in BG3. Most magic items set your score to a certain value. Dwarven Splintmail is one of the rare magic items that increases your Constitution score by +2. Any class can appreciate this, but I find it particularly useful for Clerics, as it gives you an extra boost to maintain Concentration, such as the Spirit Guardians spell.
You also get a small boost to Strength checks and saving throws, and a high AC of 19. Sold by Lann Tarv in Moonrise Towers when you need additional support while searching for Ketheric's relic.
6_Cerebral Citadel Armor
As you progress through the later chapters of Baldur's Gate 3, AC will become possessed, enchanted, paralyzed, frightened, etc. You'll notice that it's slightly less important than failing the saving throw against situations.
The Cerebral Citadel Armor, found in the Emperor's Sanctuary below Elfsong Tavern, helps greatly in this regard. It both makes you immune to Intimidation and gives you +1 to all mental saving throws. You must be infested with a mind-killer tadpole to use it, but as we know, this is a common ailment.
5_Reaper's Embrace
So you tanked with high AC and physical and elemental resistance. You feel quite safe. Then some random goon pushes your tank into a hole in the Tactician, killing you instantly because you got unlucky and failed the Push check. It feels bad, man.
This is where the Reaper's Embrace, dropped by Ketheric Thorm, comes into play, making you immune to any spells or actions with Reaper's Rigidity. It also has a neat Howl of the Dead action that offers AoE crowd control. Also reduces all damage by 2.
4_ Blackguard's Plate
Remember when we mentioned the negative effects of failing Wisdom or Intelligence saving throws? Blackguard's Plate Heavy Armor set gives you advantage on Wisdom saving throws, giving your front-line soldiers a little more peace of mind against mind-affecting spells. It's dropped by the Guards in the Bhaalist Vault, so it's just another incentive to go to that hellish place.
3_ Emblazoned Plate of the Marshal
Speaking of Fire Shield with Flawed Helldusk, it is one of the best spells in the game for melee characters. This Baldur's Gate 3 Heavy armor set gives you that for free, plus 19 AC. When you cast the spell, each attack made against you returns 2d8 fire or cold damage to your enemy. Perfect for multi-attacking enemies.
It also gives you resistance to fire damage, a +2 bonus to saving throws, and the ability to reduce all incoming damage by 2. It's one of the best armor sets in the game, but it's hard to get it from Duke Ulder Ravenguard without killing him. I have a tip, once you gain control of him, use the Throw action to throw the armor on the ground and pick it up when he's not looking.
2_ Adamantine Splint Armor
This armor takes second place not only because of its decent tanking abilities, but also because its power can be accessed early in Act 1. Still, his abilities aren't too bad compared to Emblazoned Plate and Helldusk. When used in conjunction with the Heavy Armorer trait, it offers the damage reduction we love.
What's more, when attackers miss you, they get a stacking reduction in their attack dice, so they're more likely to miss again. You're also immune to critical hits, which are brutal on higher difficulty levels. To get it, all you have to do is reach the Adamantine Forge in Grymforge and select the Splint mold located right in front of the forge.
1_ Helldusk Armor
This is a stronger version of the Flawed Helldusk Armor you received from Dammon in the Last Light Inn. It is found in the House of Hope and drops from Raphael. Not only does it have the highest AC rating in the game (21), it also comes with a host of extra perks.
You gain retaliation to fire damage, resistance to fire and the Burn condition, three less damage from all sources, and the Fly spell for free. What I like most is that any class can use it. When they wear it, they automatically become competent in this regard.
These are our list for the 3 best heavy armor sets when playing Baldur's Gate 10.
