Syncing your iPhone to your PC or Mac is an easy way to share your files and settings between two devices. To do this, you need to connect your iPhone to your computer with a USB cable and then use iTunes or Finder. In this guide, I'll show you how to sync your iPhone or other iOS device to your Mac or Windows PC using a USB data cable and the types of media and information you can transfer to your iPhone.
To sync your iPhone or iOS device to your Mac or Windows PC, you'll need the following:
- Mac or Windows PC
- Latest version of iTunes (here you can download)
- iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. I will be using an iPhone for this guide.
- 30-pin USB data cable (included with all iOS devices)
First, you need to open iTunes and then connect your iPhone to your Mac or Windows PC via USB cable. Your iPhone will display “ on the left side of the iTunes window.DEVICES” will appear below.
After you select your iPhone, iTunes displays information about your iPhone, tabs of media items that can be synced (located at the top of the window), and your iPhone's storage allocation (located at the bottom of the window).
Note: If you have a new iPhone, when you first connect it to your computer, an assistant will walk you through a setup and registration process, and you'll be able to give your iPhone a name.
Before syncing your information, you need to click on each of the tabs at the top of the iTunes window and select the items you want to sync. Let's take a brief look at each of these tabs and what they mean.
Summary: This tab provides you with some useful information about your iPhone at a glance. Here you can get information about the status of your iPhone software and choose your backup and sync options (see next tabs for more).
Bilgi: This tab contains all your personal information and settings, such as Contacts, Calendars, and Email accounts.
Applications: This tab gives you information about the applications installed on your iPhone and shows all the information about all the applications you have downloaded on your computer. Here you can edit and delete applications, as well as install them, by selecting the checkboxes next to them in the left-hand panel.
Tones: This tab allows you to sync any purchased or custom ringtones.
Music: This tab allows you to choose which music you want to transfer to your iPhone. Depending on your iPhone's storage capacity and the amount of music you have, you can choose to sync your entire music library. But if your iPhone's storage capacity isn't enough, you have full control over which songs or playlists you sync.
Movies: Like the music tab, the movies tab lets you choose which movies you want to sync to your iPhone. Just make sure they don't exceed your iPhone's storage capacity and select the checkboxes next to them.
TV Shows: If you've purchased TV shows from the iTunes Store, this is the place to select the shows (entire shows or just a few episodes) you want to sync to your iPhone.
Podcasts: This tab allows you to sync podcasts on your computer to your iPhone.
Books: The Books tab lets you sync any books and PDFs you may have stored on your computer to your iPhone. Also, if you have Audiobooks, you can sync them from here as well.
Photos: In this tab you will be able to choose which photos you want to sync to your iPhone. As with music and movies, you can sync all your photos depending on the number of photos you have and your iPhone's storage capacity. Otherwise, you can choose exactly which photos or Activities (Folders for Windows PC owners) to sync.
After selecting the media you want to sync, click the Apply button in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window. Syncing will begin and a progress bar will let you know how far your iPhone is in the syncing process. When the syncing is complete, you will see “iPhone Syncing Completed. Click OK to Disconnect” appears.
Syncing your iPhone to your PC or Mac is that easy! In minutes, your iPhone will have all your favorite songs, photos, books and more.
